Mad Makers!

Mad COVID was a shared space for grassroots mental health survivor / service user projects that started during the COVID19 pandemic. This website is being maintained for historical purposes – please note that none of its projects are currently active.

Welcome to Mad Makers! Are you mad and wanna make some stuff too? Come on in!

This is a space for mad artists, crafters, creatives and ‘dabblers’ of all practices and abilities to share and celebrate what we make.

We don’t believe that making should always be ‘mindful’ (if that is even possible), rather that madness and making go hand-in-hand: we make because we are mad.

We believe that creative self-expression provides an important insight into people’s experiences, particularly throughout Covid19. Through the numerous projects under the Mad Makers banner, we have been able to develop a network of mad creative people who learn from, inspire and encourage one another. And, despite everything, expand our social connections.

Click on the different projects below to see what we’ve been making and find out more about how to get involved:

Digital Gallery

Our online gallery hosting images of ‘mad makes’ that people have shared with us. If you would like to display you artwork here, please send pictures to madcovid@gmail.com. You can also use #MadMakers and #MadMakersCraftClub on social media.

Craft Club

An informal weekly get together using Discord App. All kind of makers and maker-curious folk are welcome! People bring whatever they are working on, and hang out while we make, share ideas, skills, and resources – whilst also inevitably being video-bombed by various cats and pets each week!

Mail Art project

A collaborative project between 9 mad artists, which began in October 2020. This a slow-art project in which the artists are collaborating and responding to one another as it develops.

Video tutorials

30-45 minute video tutorials, based around financially accessible, if not free, craft projects. We also have episodes which don’t require any scissors or sharp objects.

If you have an art or craft that you’d like share, please get in touch with us about hosting an episode. We can support you through the process, and provide things like a tripod or memory card for your phone. We’ll also take care of all the editing for you!
